Paul Geraghty NAPA

Paul Geraghty was born in Lancashire and attended Warrington School of Art and Design. He was awarded a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting) at Stoke-on-Trent School of Art, North Staffordshire  Polytechnic and is a post graduate of Goldsmith’s College,  University of London.

Paul taught art for 10 years in several inner city comprehensive schools in London before moving to  Shrewsbury to continue his teaching in Shropshire. Since 1997, Paul has been living and working in  Cornwall, where the ever changing weather conditions  along the West Penwith coast present constant challenges for the artist. He is now a very well-known Cornish artist and his work has been exhibited throughout Cornwall and beyond.

Paul is special guest artist for the Coastline and Weather (mini NAPA) exhibition at Seaview art Gallery - 27th May - 10th June 17. He was Director of NAPA - National Acrylic Painters Association 2014 - 16. Paul is influenced by his surroundings inparticular he notes that where manmade structures and nature mix to form a beautiful scene of multiple textures it fascinates him. He regularly features Harbours, Piers and Lighthouses in amazing sea and sky scapes. The textures and colours, light and reflections which result from this are faultlessly captured.

He primes his canvas with an acrylic ground which grabs the paint as the brush is dragged across giving a rich textured and naturalistic effect. Paul builds up the light in a painting rather than the shadow by starting with a dark background. This way he creates space and form followed by tiny details added later to complete the scene.

His paintings are in many collections.
